Why the Breath?
Breath is one of the most powerful healing tools readily available to us.  Eastern mystics traditionally incorporate breath control (pranayama) into their daily spiritual practice because they know from experience that breath control also deeply affects our ability to control the mind.  Breath is the vehicle for life force energy to infuse our being.  Did you know that the ancient Latin word for breath was spiritus?
 
Western integrative medicine's approach to healing also recognizes the power of breathwork.  Dr. Andrew Weil considers breath the key to health and wellness, a function we can learn to regulate and develop in order to improve our physical, mental and spiritual well-being. 
 
Many of us breathe incorrectly doing what is called 'paradoxical breathing' that actually results in fatigue and shortness of breath, or uneven breath, and our automatic breathing patterns (which are subject to our emotions and habits) may actually be causing us to live at a fraction of our potential vitality.
 
Dr. Herbert Benson, an associate professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School and founder of the Mind/Body Medical Institute has established through research that conscious attention to the breath can change the impact the breath has on our physiology.  It affects body rhythms such as blood circulation, modulates sleep, digestion and assists with eliminating toxins among many others.
 
You can discover the powerful causal relationship that exists between your thoughts and how you create your physical body.  Breathwork is a completly integrative healing tool.  What works on the level of mind manifests in the body.  Guided breathwork with a trained practitioner can bring your unconscious thoughts to your consciousness, and allow you to release your emotional attachments to them.
 
The ancient sages knew what we are re-discovering, that the Breath is the bridge between mind and body, the connection between consciousness and unconsciousness.  If we breathe unconsciously, the result may be shallow breathing that does not energize us and actually promotes dis-ease. 
 
Breathe to Heal offers several modalities outlined below based on the breath to assist you with harmonizing and vitalizing your mind/body, healing past trauma, and uncovering old beliefs and patterns that no longer serve you.

Intuitive Breathing
Intuitive breathwork is an extremely safe form of re-birthing which was pioneered in the 1970's by Leonard Orr. It allows us to be re-born into the present as we release old patterns of thinking and beliefs, many of which we play out in our relationships while consciously unaware of their origin.  These patterns can include revenge, rivalry, guilt, helplessness, addiction to struggle, and sabotage. 
 
Many of us live in fear, pain, anger, conflict, worry, scarcity and depression at some point in our lives. We keep attracting to us relationships and relationship dynamics that play out and reinforce our patterns.  Breathwork offers us the opportunity to identify and release these destructive patterns. 
 
Working with your breathworker, you will begin to identify the thoughts you hold behind the symptoms, and identify the cause and effect of your thoughts.  You will then use the breath to release your emotional attachment to those thoughts.  Part of the release also includes active, or what has been called radical forgiveness, recognizing that forgiveness purges you of the past and brings you into the present.  It is not a casual act.
 
Breathe to Heal recommends a minimum of 10 sessions with your breathworker so that you may begin to experience a release of the agenda that the ego has for you, and begin to open up to your true nature of harmony, peace, innocence, safety, happiness and health.
 
Intuitive Breathwork doesn't aim to analyze the darkness within, but to simply release it and let it go, leaving you feeling lighter. 
 
Intuitive Breathwork differs from pranayama techniques and has a different purpose.  Intuitive Breathwork guides you gently to an internal place where you can safely access and release hidden beliefs and thoughts that are limiting your potential to create loving relationships with yourself and others.

Session Costs:  1st session is $150.00  Each subsequent session is $108.00. 
 
Sessions usually last a minimum of 2 hours.  The 1st session is usually longer, so please be sure to schedule enough time so you are not rushed.

Pranayama
Breath control is not just deep breathing, but targeted exercises that affect our physical, physiological and neural energies as well as our psychological and cerebral activities such as memory training and creativity. Certain breath ratios can increase energy, or instantly relieve stress.
 
Because the main aim of the practice of Yoga (including hatha yoga, kriya yoga, japa yoga, raja yoga etc.) is self-realization, and communication of the conscious mind self with the higher Self, pranayama not only involves controlling the mind, but the whole of our human consciousness.

Walking Breath
Buddhist monks have long integrated walking meditation with conscious breathing to promote directed meditative attention and harmony by synchronizing breath, mind and body to work together.
 
Kundalini Yogis Gurucharan Singh Khalsa and Yogi Bhajan have also developed a modality that they call 'Breathwalk'.  They have written a beautiful book on the practice and they teach it at the Tony Robbins Life Mastery University. 
 
Walking and breathing outside in nature is the focus of this meditative Walking Breath experience, and regular practice will harmonize and energize you, bringing you fresh vitality.

Hatha Yoga
Hatha Yoga practice of poses gathers the energies of our bodies and minds to gently open our awareness.  The word yoga translates as integration
 
Yoga is a series of techniques, and does not provide a doctrine or philosophy, and therefore is compatible with any religious faith. Hatha Yoga is one of the major techniques of Yoga which lead to a rebalancing of the body and the mind. 
 
Pranayama and meditation are another two of the Yogic techniques to bring balance to our lives.  Yoga asanas (poses) restore the body to it's natural equilibrium.  Hatha Yoga is taught with an empahsis on alignment, mindful movement with breath and cultivating an awareness of our internal energies. 
 
Schedule individual sessions with Kerry by appointment, or attend a multi-level Hatha Yoga classe on Monday evenings at 6:00pm Crystal Lake, IL. September through June. 
 
Group Class Cost: $6.00 per class.
Individual Sessions: $40.00 per hour

Meditation
Yogis know that meditation is a way of freeing the mind from past compulsion so that you might be truly 'born again'....that it is the art of touching the real you which is eternal, unchanging, and ever blissful in that deep place that exists within each of us. 
 
Meditation is an art, an art of inturning, focusing and balancing the forces of your mind to a point of peace and tranquility as you learn to release attachments. Meditation, breathwork and yoga poses all work together in a beautiful dance of release and Self awareness.
 
There are many meditative techniques and it is important to find one that works for you.  It's not a one size fits all.  Kerry will work with you to find a meditation technique that suits you and your lifestyle.  The goal of meditation is not just to meditate repeatedly, but to reach a state of consciousness that is peaceful and serene, and then to bring that feeling state out into the world and keep it there.
